Blog Tour and Review: Love Spells and other Disasters by Angie Barrett

Love Spells and Other Disasters by Angie Barrett

Publication Date: February 1, 2021

Publisher:  Entangled Teen

I didn’t know when I wrote the first love spell that it would actually make things happen. Like, actually make people fall in love with each other…

How could I have known something like that? I mean, magic isn’t real, right?

But here’s the thing—the spell does work and so does the next one and the next one...and suddenly I’m getting a whole lot of attention from everyone at my high school. Me, Blend-into-the-Walls, Please-Let-Me-Introvert-in-Peace Rowan Marshall. And not only that, but I’ve also caught the attention of Luca Russo, a godlike, football-playing hottie who claims he likes me just the way I am. Ummm...

But as I’m about to learn, playing around with things you don’t understand means when things go wrong—like really, very awfully wrong—you don’t know how to fix them.

My Review:

A teenage girl with an interesting mom, living in a wonderfully large, possibly haunted mansion starts a school project with a popular girl that has always given her a hard time. Their project? Selling love spells at the school market. What could possibly go wrong, right?!

I don't know about you, but I actually enjoy books that are a bit predictable. This one fits the bill nicely. This girl, that I pretty much adore, starts out in this book by not believing in the supernatural even though her mom has made a career out of it. So when her love spells apparently work, she is a bit surprised. Her school project partner pushes her to keep writing them, as well as to write more permanent ones. Things spiral pretty quickly.

She tries to keep this all from her mom, whom she doesn't quite understand. Her mom spends most of her time with people wanting past life regressions, seances, and aura readings. She feels the need to help her mom come back to reality, not willing to believe that her mom can take care of herself.

While all this is happening, Rowan, the main character, is quickly getting into a new relationship with the high school hot boy who has decided to make a change from football to restoration work. Things heat up pretty quickly, and a part of me keeps wondering if she accidentally put a love spell on him without intending to.

Another person that is quickly getting involved with someone new is her best friend, Ethan. He is a wonderfully colorful character with a great fashion sense and over-the-top at times but oh so beautiful makeup styles. At first, I thought he was a terrific friend to her, but he disappoints me a bit a little way into the story.

I won't tell you how it turns out. You need to read it for yourself if you want to see how everything gets handled. All in all I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a young adult story with a character that goes through quite a bit of growth in a short time, a hot boy that is much more than just a pretty face, and an interesting, though a bit predictable, storyline. I enjoyed the book and I think a lot of you would as well.
