Description Shadow Of the Gypsy by Shelly Frome
Josh Bartlett had figured all the angles, changed his name, holed up as a small-town features writer in the seclusion of the Blue Ridge. Only a few weeks more and he’d begin anew, return to the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut and Molly (if she’d have him) and, at long last, live a normal life. After all, it was a matter of record that Zharko had been deported well over a year ago.
The shadowy form Josh had glimpsed yesterday at the lake was only that—a hazy shadow under the eaves of the activities building. It stood to reason his old nemesis was still ensconced overseas in Bucharest or thereabouts well out of the way. And no matter where he was, he wouldn’t travel thousands of miles to track Josh down. Surely that couldn’t be, not now, not after all this.

Review by Suzie
'Shadow of the Gypsy,' by Shelly Frome is proof that
some secrets can't stay hidden forever.
Josh Bartlett is only a child when he witnesses a
crime committed by a man named Zharko. Josh suffers psychologically from the
memory of what he saw, and, after changing his name, he is sent away from his
hometown by his mother to attend school in Tennessee.
As an adult, Josh continues to stay in hiding, moving
to the mountains of North Carolina to avoid being found by Zharko.
Unfortunately, as we know, the best laid plans don't always work out.
Zharko eventually finds Josh and asks him to take part
in a criminal scheme that causes Josh to put his entire life on hold and return
to his hometown in Connecticut. Zharko insists that Josh had signed an IOU with
him and that he must now repay his debt to the man.
Once there, Josh attempts to reconnect with the woman
that he loves, Molly, whom he has been long-distance dating for years. However,
because Josh can't tell Molly why he has returned to town without putting her
in danger, she shies away from him.
Having received a briefcase with instructions that he
was to wait to open until he got into town, Josh discovers what it is that he
must do to fulfill his debt to Zharko. But will Josh be able to do Zharko's
bidding while staying true to himself and the woman that he loves? That is
something that you'll have to read 'Shadow of the Gypsy,' yourself to find out,
and I highly recommend it!
This is a thriller unlike anything that I have ever
read before, with tense action, witty dialog and an absolutely terrifying
villain. If you can predict how this one ends, I'll be shocked, because I know
I couldn't!
