In the small town of Danville Heights, things tend to move a bit more slowly. This is a town where lawns are always mowed and the streets are always clean. This is a town where everyone knows everyone else, and all of the citizens are friendly. But Danville Heights has one secret. No one goes into the forest preserve.

None of the younger people know why, exactly, the preserve is forbidden by their parents, but they know not to go in. But one day, five friends decide to enter the preserve and what they find there is beyond all of their expectations.

Alex, Kinsu, Chase, Rhee and Kinsu are curious about what their parents seem to be so afraid of and they go into the forest while still riding the high of winning their high school football game. But inside the forest is dark and strange, and the boys are met with hundreds of glowing balls of light that dance around in the air.

After the lights approach them and begin to explode, the boys are knocked unconscious and awake the next day finding that they each have one enhanced sense. This discovery throws their lives into chaos, and they soon find out the dark cost of their new abilities, and why the people of Danville Heights are so keen to stay away from the preserve.
